in the past few weeks kimbah has been eating solids. she has been eating pureed foods since about five months, but she isnt the biggest fan of them. we got her a high chair, and started to seriously feed her solids. she isnt eating three meals a day, but she is munching on food along with us. we started off with bananas. it was the one food that i felt comfortable giving her, that she could manage on her own. we are following a Baby-Led Weaning style approach. she really digs it. she doesnt like to be fed with a spoon, and she thrusts the food out of her mouth when i try to feed her. i want to be totally aware of her eating signals because i dont want her to be force fed. all the foods that we give her are soft and easy for her to pick up. we also give her water in a sippy cup. she loves that. anything that makes her feel like a big girl.
right now she is interested in:
- tangelos
- whole wheat bread
- avocado
- watermelon
- cantaloupe
- brussel sprouts
- eggs
- limes & lemons
- potatoes
- green beans
- apples
- bananas
- peaches
- mango
its super fun feeding her new things. she makes the cutest faces. she hasnt really refused anything we have given her, so thats a plus. yes i am constantly on the edge of my seat worried about her choking. yes i am always checking for rashes & am paranoid that she is going to be allergic. i just think thats what motherhood is. its a constant look over your shoulder. wondering if the choices you are making for your child is going to be the right ones. we are still nursing through the day & night, and im sure she is getting all that she needs from me still. its such a wonderful feeling to know that you are providing nutrition for your baby. i try to eat as healthy as possible. i think i do a great job at it actually. i do eat an occasional pizza here and there, and i do love my sweets, but as far as fast food and fried foods? i dont get much of that.
so the adventures on the food front are exciting, watching her grow is just a dream.
